Over in the east of Amsterdam, De Plantage is an elegant, leafy 19th century neighbourhood that feels a world away from the canals and cobbles of the centre. It was designed as a sort of pleasure garden for Amsterdam’s rich residents, so it’s full of charming squares, leafy boulevards and beautiful gardens.
Things to do in de Plantage
The 19th century Artis complex includes a zoo, a planetarium, a gorgeous aquarium, several museums, and botanical gardens to explore – so you can easily spend an entire day over here. For an elegant lunch, try the Cafe restaurant de Plantage in the former orangery on the beautiful Artisplein. And don’t forget to stop and say hello to the flamingos before you leave!
