We discovered this special little place during a bike ride last summer and fell immediately in love with it. Located just north of Westerpark, the Buurtboerderij is a charming little farmhouse surrounded by fields and horses, with a lovely relaxed restaurant and pretty garden with lots of secret nooks and quirky seating areas. It’s thankfully completely off the tourist radar (even a lot of locals don’t seem to know about it) so it’s something of a hidden gem.
It’s a community-run project so there’s a lovely hippy vibe and nice touches like the ‘all-for-free’ neighbourhood shop, vegetable patches, and lots of events and activities like yoga classes, plays, live music and parties. During the summer months they run an outdoor cinema, which we can highly recommend if you like the idea of snuggling up amongst the fairy lit trees night with a bottle of wine and a great film.
The Buurtboederij is probably more of a summertime hangout due to its festival-ly, outdoorsy vibe, but it’s also a beautiful place to stop for a hot bowl of soup on a crisp winter’s day. Just don’t tell too many people about it, ok?
